The Hong Kong Biodiversity Information Hub (HKBIH) is committed to safeguard the privacy of individuals with respect to personal data. We therefore make sure that our policies and practices in relation to the collection, use, retention, transfer and access of personal data comply with the requirements of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Chapter 486) under the laws of Hong Kong.
Information Collection and Use
- HKBIH collects personal information when you register with our online booking and submission services. HKBIH may combine information about you that we have with information we obtain from you via other media format.
- When you register we ask for information such as your name, email address, telephone number and correspondence address. Once you enrol our services, you are not anonymous to us.
- HKBIH uses information for the following general purposes: to customize content you see, fulfill your requests for service, improve our services, contact you, and conduct internal research.
- HKBIH records visits to this website without collecting any personal identifiable information of users. Such general statistics are collected for the compilation of statistical reports and the diagnosis of problems with or concerning computer systems to help HKBIH improve this website.
Information Sharing and Disclosure
HKBIH does not rent, sell, or share personal information about you with other people or nonaffiliated companies except to provide products or services you've requested, when we have your permission, or under the following circumstances:
- We respond to subpoenas, court orders, or legal process, or to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims;
- We believe it is necessary to share information in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations of HKBIH terms of use, or as otherwise required by law.
Confidentiality and Security
- We limit access to personal information about you to employees who we believe reasonably need to come into contact with that information to provide products or services to you or in order to do their jobs.
- We have physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with laws of Hong Kong to protect personal information about you.
