Launch of Biodiversity Geographic Information System

We are thrilled to announce the official launch of the Biodiversity Geographic Information System (BGIS). The system hosts more than a million occurrence records of local species released by AFCD and its partner organisations and compiled from scientific research and citizen science projects. After launching a trial (beta) version online last September, we have refined both the system interface and datasets. As a key component of the HKBIH, BGIS is also connected to other databases in the HKBIH, such as the species database and multimedia database containing species introductions and photos, respectively, providing a one-stop shop for the public to gain a better understanding of the diverse species found in Hong Kong.
