Located in Tin Shui Wai North in the New Territories, Hong Kong Wetland Park (HKWP) is an ecological mitigation area established to compensate for the loss of wetland habitats due to the extensive new town development in Tin Shui Wai. Various kinds of wetland habitats, such as freshwater marshes, streams, mangrove beds, mudflats, paddy fields, fishponds and reed beds have been created in the Park to provide a haven for diverse species. The cumulative number of bird species recorded at the Reserve has reached 286. Meanwhile, dragonfly, amphibian and reptile species recorded are 58, 10 and 34 respectively.
The HKWP is about 60 hectares in size covering a visitor centre and a wetland reserve for wildlife. The visitor centre contains themed exhibition galleries on biodiversity, human culture and conservation, as well as theatre, play area, classroom and resource centre. The wetland reserve consists of re-created wetland habitats for waterbirds, and outdoor visitor facilities including Wetland Discovery Centre, educational walks, boardwalks and bird hides. HKWP also regularly organises different school and public programmes, such as guided eco-tours and workshops. For activity details, please visit https://www.wetlandpark.gov.hk/en
